Peter, the “apostle of hope,” writes to a confused and discouraged group of Christians who were encountering persecution because of their faith. He exhorts them to stand firm, with the knowledge of Christ’s return and the riches of their inheritance in him. He calls them to live obediently and maintain holiness in the midst of suffering, by keeping their hope fixed on Christ and his promise of eternal life.
