The second epistle of John was written to a Christian woman who had a strong faith in Christ and brought her children up in the faith. He encourages her in her love and hospitality, but he also warns her of the false teachers that were attempting to abuse the kindness of Christians to gain a foothold in the church. He infers that agreement on sound doctrine is an important element in true fellowship with other believers.
