Deuteronomy
Deuteronomy means “Second Law,” which was given about a month before the death of Moses, as Israel was reaching the Promised Land. It is not a new law, however, but a retelling of the law through a series of sermons given by Moses. He calls all of Israel to remember God’s faithfulness, but also His wrath on the previous generation’s rebellion. He urges them to love and obey the one true God, reminding them there are blessings with obedience and curses for disobedience. Finally, the book ends with Moses selecting Joshua as the new leader of Israel.
