The book of Genesis is a book of origins: how the universe began, the creation of all life, and even the origin of sin. It introduces us to the Creator and Ruler of all. It covers the beginnings of the earth to its destruction through a global flood, and then sheds light on the origin of the different languages and peoples that exist today. Finally, the book zeroes in on Abraham and his descendants, through whom the savior of the world was to eventually come and redeem fallen mankind.
