James
James, considered by some to be the brother of Jesus, wrote his epistle to remind all Christians how we ought to live. Sometimes called “the Proverbs of the New Testament,” this letter encourages all readers to live authentically for Christ. His voice is complementary, not contradictory to Paul’s, when he writes of the faith that Paul often wrote about. True faith in Christ will naturally produce fruit in a Christian’s life, and James teaches how to examine that faith by measuring the fruit in one’s life. He speaks of the spiritual profit of suffering, the Christian duty of truthfulness, impartiality towards all mankind, and the importance of controlling the tongue. Piercing and practical, it is sure to challenge every believer.
