Titus was a disciple and companion of Paul, who was left on the island of Crete to appoint elders in the churches there. Paul wrote this letter to Titus to encourage him as he endured opposition from legalists within his congregations. He charged him to teach sound doctrine and instruct the church in godliness with all authority.
